UPS Plane With 2 Aboard Crashes in Dubai After Takeoff

A UPS (UPS) plane headed from Dubai to Cologne, Germany, crashed minutes after takeoff with two crewmembers aboard.

The plane, a Boeing 747-400, crashed at about 8 p.m. local time, UPS said in a statement. UPS, the world's largest shipping company, says it's investigating the crash site.

Two bodies were found at the scene, the Associated Press reported, citing state news agency WAM. UPS hasn't confirmed casualties and is declining to comment on the cause of the crash.

The plane took off and then attempted to return before crashing about 10 miles southeast of Dubai's airport, AP said, citing two aviation experts who declined to be identified because they weren't authorized to speak to the media.

Six planes have crashed at or near Dubai Airport since 1973, though, until today, no casualties were recorded, according to the Flight Safety Foundation's database. UPS has had five plane crashes, though no fatalities before today, according to the database.
