Pop Singer Says She Got Bed Bug Bites at Swanky New York Hotel

With bed bugs a hot topic these days, pop singer Lauren Hildebrandt is out with word she's been attacked by the tiny bloodsuckers and it's no fun.

Hildebrandt says she got itchy and painful bites on her back and shoulders at a fancy hotel in New York City's Union Square, which she did not name, but which USA Today reports is part of a luxury hotel chain.

The singer is warning travelers to take precautions against the nasty nips, even at swank hotel properties, as the bugs reach epidemic proportions.

"People should be aware of the danger in NYC hotels right now," Hildebrandt says in a press release.

So what can hotel-goers do? Check your hotel bed before agreeing to take the room, says frequent traveler Hildebrandt.

In addition, she says, "I will not place a suitcase on the bed, ever. I will also pack items in plastic bags. I'll do everything I can to take precautions from now on."

The "Boy Shorts" singer is launching a media tour to promote her new dance hit this fall, but she says she'll be talking bed bugs too.

As for the New York property, Hildebrandt says the hotel's managers have assured her they're investigating how the infestation occurred even though they take precautions, including bringing in bug-spotting dogs. She adds she doesn't blame the hotel for the problem.
