From kickin' places to get the party started to chic spots to unwind, the Steel City has a great selection of bars and restaurants offering happy hour specials for Pittsburgh's hardworking people. Here is a list of some of the top places to spend happy hour in Pittsburgh.

Mad Mex

370 Atwood Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15213

Happy Hour: 4:30PM-6:30PM daily

If you arrive late, don't expect to get a seat at the bar during "happy hora" at Mad Mex, offered from 4:30PM to 6:30PM daily. College students and the after-work crowd rush in to take advantage of half-priced drafts and wings, as well as the brain-freezing, 22-ounce Big Azz Margaritas in various fruity flavors for only $7. 12-ounce and 15-ounce house margaritas come at the cheap price of $3 and $5, respectively. Dimly-lit and narrow, the ambience is great for an after-work happy hour experience. The extensive menu, featuring loaded bean and salsa dips, taquitos, garbanzo beef stew, burritos and juicy buffalo wings, as well as plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, gives you a reason to stay for dinner. It's no wonder that Mad Mex is a favorite happy hour destination in Pittsburgh.

OTB Bicycle Cafe
2518 East Carson Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Happy Hour: Mon-Fri 5PM-7PM, Sat-Sun 4PM-6PM

Seeing as there are not very many themed restaurants in Pittsburgh, much less themed restaurants with an excellent happy hour, OTB (Over the Bar) Bicycle Cafe is clearly one-of-a-kind. OTB is in the colorful South Side on East Carson Street, where more than 80 of Pittsburgh's lounges, bars and pubs are located, so driving and parking can be a challenge. However, public transportation is easily accessible, and bike parking at the OTB Bicycle Café is readily available.

The bar has one of the best happy hours in Pittsburgh. Happy hour specials are offered 5PM-7PM Monday through Friday, and from 4PM-6PM on Saturday and Sunday. Specials include $2 well drinks, $3 drafts and half off all appetizers. The daily specials are also worth checking out, particularly the Early Bird special on Saturdays – a sandwich and any draft for $10. I personally love Car Free Fridays, when anyone who rides a bike to the cafe gets a free appetizer, and the stage features live acoustic music with no cover charge. The staff at OTB is friendly, and the walls are covered with bike murals, sculptures, and other funky bike art.

The Smiling Moose
1306 East Carson Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Happy Hour: 9PM-11PM daily

Everyone smiles at The Smiling Moose. Here you can find great live music, cheap (and strong) drinks and awesome bartenders and crowds. If you're looking for a local bar with a distinct Pittsburgh vibe, Smiling Moose has a kickin' second-floor bar with an old-school arcade, as well as pool, darts and music (live and jukebox, sometimes both!). Daily drink specials are offered from 9PM-11PM, with features like $1 off all micro and import bottles on Wednesdays and $2 Yuengling drafts on Fridays.

The mouthwatering menu is full of great-tasting bar food. The Smiling Moose has gourmet sliders in awesome flavors like garlic, basil, roasted red pepper, bacon, sweet chili mayo and sweet barbeque plus unusual snacks like squash and corn fritters and grilled shrimp skewers laced with cilantro lime mayo. D's Six Pax & Dogz
1118 S. Braddock Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15218

Happy Hour: 4PM-6PM daily

At the east end of town is a great place to hang out, D's Six Pax & Dogz of Pittsburgh. This local bar houses the notorious Beer Cave, an impressive selection of over 1000 brands of beers, 26 draft choices and scrumptious multi-topping turkey or all-beef hot dogs that even vegetarians want to try (don't worry, veggie dogs are available too). It's a great place to drink, eat (try the chili cheese fries!), chill and meet people. You can initiate conversations by talking about the cool wall art, which features murals, caricatures and Pittsburgh icons. My personal favorites include Belgian wheat beer for about $3 and $1 off all beers during happy hour from 4PM-6PM daily.

229 S Highland Ave
Pittsburgh, PA 15206

Happy Hour: 5PM-7PM weekdays

At last, here is an upscale treat for the after-work crowd. Happy hour specials from 5PM-7PM weekdays at Pittsburgh's swanky Casbah on South Highland include $6 liquor drinks and wines by the glass as well as $1 off beers. The cool atmosphere and attentive service as well as outdoor patio seating make it the perfect place to unwind over cocktails in Pittsburgh after a busy day. Enjoy your drink specials with exquisite dishes such as sweet corn fondue, veal tortellini, Scottish salmon and Mascarpone risotto – all made using fresh ingredients.
