Research In Motion May Provide India E-Mail Solution This Week

Updated

Research In Motion (RIMM) may come up with a solution this week to allow Indian security authorities access to e-mails on the company's BlackBerry device, Reuters reported.

RIM has until Aug. 31 to give security agencies the ability to track and read BlackBerry Enterprise e-mail and BlackBerry Messenger services.

"We are expecting they will come up with some solution for Enterprise mail next week," a source told Reuters on Friday.

Indian authorities are concerned that militants could use RIM's encrypted services to carry out attacks. Authorities have threatened to shut down the service in India if they are not given access.

Authorities in the country, which is one of the world's fastest-growing telecoms markets, have said they are willing to extend the deadline for the messenger services, as they have been assured of access.
