Yellowstone Sees Record Number of Visitors
The park says it set a new monthly record for visits in July, with 957,000 visitors. That's close to 60,000 more than last July.
July is usually Yellowstone's busiest month, followed by August, June, September and May.
If the numbers hold up, the park will also break records for the year. More than 3.3 million people visited Yellowstone in 2009. So far for 2010, the numbers are up 5.8 percent, park officials say.
A downside to the numbers: Officials say during July, the park's campgrounds and lodges reported being full by mid-morning.
Yellowstone, home to geysers including Old Faithful, wildlife including bison, and its own Grand Canyon, was established in 1872, as the world's first national park.
