Truffle puree recall: Pricey gourmet food could make you sick
Two types of the pricey import from Italy (Winter Black Truffle Puree and Winter White Black Truffle Puree) were sold in packages weighing less than one ounce that costs about $50 each. A third (Winter White Truffle Puree with Porcini Mushrooms) sold for a little more than half that.Optimus, Inc., which does business as Marky's in Miami, reported the recall to the FDA. Consumers with the recalled truffle puree should not eat it and return it to where they bought it to get a refund.
The puree, packaged in 0.9 ounce containers, had the following UPC numbers: 851503000680, 851503000123, 851503000154.
Under-processing means there is a chance the truffle puree "could be contaminated with microorganisms or other harmful substances," the FDA said.
The delicacies were sold between February 2009 and July 2010 in at least 17 states including Arkansas, Alaska, California, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Texas, Tennessee and Virginia.
