Eugenio Brezzi truffle puree -- a gourmet delicacy that can sell for nearly $1,000 a pound -- is being recalled after a defect was found in the processing machinery, leaving those who eat it at risk of potentially serious gastrointestinal problems, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced.

Two types of the pricey import from Italy (Winter Black Truffle Puree and Winter White Black Truffle Puree) were sold in packages weighing less than one ounce that costs about $50 each. A third (Winter White Truffle Puree with Porcini Mushrooms) sold for a little more than half that.
