River Cruising on the Mekong

Viking River Cruises says it will launch river cruises on the Mekong River in December.

The leading river cruise company announced a new 15-day program on the waterway that visits key sights in Vietnam and Cambodia.

"Our guests have requested that we expand to other destinations so they can experience even more of the world," says Viking chairman Torstein Hagen. "We are proud to launch this new Mekong River program and know that it will soon become a favorite of both past and new Viking guests."

Viking also offers river cruises in Germany, Russia, China and Egypt.

The Mekong trip, which combines an eight-day cruise with land exploration, is currently sale priced from $3,399 per person. The first cruise is December 27, with the trip offered on select dates throughout 2011.

The itinerary includes two nights in Hanoi, three nights in Siem Reap (for Angkor Wat) and two nights in Ho Chi Minh City.

The cruise, with stops in places including Phnom Penh, is on the 66-passenger RV Tonle, built in 2002, specifically to navigate the Mekong.

Optional extensions take passengers to Ha Long Bay in Vietnam or Bangkok, Thailand.
