Sharp to Launch New Smartphone With 3-D Panel

Updated

Sharp Corp. (SHCAY) plans to venture into the smartphone market with a device that has a 3-D panel.

Users will not need to wear special glasses to view the panel and the new phone will probably have a 3D-enabled camera, Reuters reported.

Sharp is Japan's largest mobile-phone maker but has failed to carve itself a niche in the smartphone market. The company's Kin model, which was made for Microsoft (MSFT), was a flop in the United States and canceled after less than three months.

In April, Sharp unveiled its 3D panel technology, designed specifically for small screens such as mobile phones and portable game consoles.
