The Cadillac Escalade 2007-2009 model lead the road in terms of insurance theft losses, according to new data from the Highway Data Loss Institute.

Overall theft losses are a measure of the rate at which insurance claims are filed and the size of payment for these claims.

This is the sixth time out of seven that the Escalade, a luxury SUV, has topped the institute's list. The Escalade had average yearly losses more than seven times the average for all passenger vehicles. The Escalade EXT four-door, four–wheel-drive has the highest of all: $146 in theft payment per insured vehicle year. That's more than 10 times the average for all passenger vehicles.

The Escalade is followed by the Ford-F250 crew pickup, Infiniti G37 sport sedan, and Dodge Charger with a HEMI engine.

"Sedate family cars and fuel sippers aren't on the hot list," said Kim Hazelbaker, HLDI senior vice president. "Thieves are after chrome, horsepower and HEMIs."
