Quick Cruise Sale, Fares from $499

Holland America Line launched a short-term sale with half-off prices on select fall and winter cruises. One-week Caribbean sailings are priced from $499 per person.

But you have to act fast. The sale ends Friday at midnight.

Cruises at the lowest price are October to February and include weeklong Eastern Caribbean sailings on the Eurodam, one of the newest ships in the HAL fleet, cruising from Fort Lauderdale.

Cruises on brand new sister ship Nieuw Amsterdam, in the eastern and western Caribbean, also from Fort Lauderdale, are priced from $549.

The HAL sale also includes $499 fares for Mexican Riviera cruises on the Oosterdam, from San Diego.

There is special pricing for cruises to other destinations as well – including the Panama Canal, South America, Alaska, Canada/New England, Asia/Pacific, South Pacific, Bermuda, Europe and Hawaii.

At the same time, sister line Princess cruises – both companies are part of Carnival Corp. – is offering a free double upgrade from interior to balcony cabins on select 2010/2011 cruises in the Mediterranean, including Holy Land sailings, as well as in Hawaii, the South Pacific, Tahiti, China, Southeast Asia, West Africa, and South America, available while the special fares last.

You can grab a balcony cabin on a 7-day Ocean Princess cruise from Rome on Sept. 29 or Oct. 6, from $1,099 per person. Or take in French Polynesia views on a 10-day holiday sailing on the Royal Princess, embarking Tahiti on Dec. 19, from $1,699.
