The search is intensifying to find a replacement for judge Simon Cowell, as preliminary auditions get under way for the 10th season of Fox's "American Idol."

Fox is determined to snag a widely-known music industry figure for the post, and Hollywood Reportersays Chris Isaak has met twice with the network. Harry Connick Jr., Bret Michaels and Donald Trump have also reportedly been considered.

Peter Rice, the network's entertainment chairman, has said he expects the new "Idol" judge to join the audition roadshow by early September.

Idol remains the highest-rated series on TV but its numbers have slipped the last couple of years. The show has lowered its audition age to 15 from 16 to attract younger talent.

Isaak, in addition to writing the hit song "Wicked Game," has appeared on TV's "Eastwick," "Cold Case," "Smallville" and his own "Chris Isaak Show" for Showtime.

Fox makes and estimated $800 million in ad revenue from "Idol" per season.
