Lenovo Plans Tablet Computer Powered by Android

Lenovo (LNVGY) is developing a new tablet PC that relies on Google's Android operating system, becoming the latest computer maker to jump into what is becoming a crowded market for tablet computers, according to a Reuters report. Lenovo selected Android because it wanted to ensure the device would be compatible with its LePhone smartphone, which is sold in China.

The company doesn't yet have a ship date for the device, currently being called the LePad, but Lenovo may want to hurry. Apparently, Asus is dropping its plans to use the Windows Embedded operating system for its Eee Pad tablet in favor of Android, according to a PCWorldreport. And Dell (DELL) already has its Android-based Streak tablet, which, according to a review from Engadget, could easily fall into the smartphone category.
