Flight Makes Emergency Landing after Toilets Break
The plane had been headed to Paris from Rio de Janeiro, AFP reports. The Boeing 747 had 438 passengers onboard.
Air France confirmed the pilot made a decision about 2 ½ hours into the 11-hour flight to return to Rio after at least six of the plane's toilets stopped functioning. The plane landed back in Rio about six hours after take-off.
According to AFP, Air France said flying without working toilets would have caused "great discomfort for our passengers."
Back in Rio, passengers were put up in hotels or driven home to await another flight, but several complained to local media about the absurdity of the situation.
This incident follows an emergency landing of a Paris-bound Air France flight in northeastern Brazil last weekend following a bomb threat, that turned out to be fake.
