Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) said that one of the members of an alleged Russian spy ring in the U.S. worked for the company at its headquarters in Redmond, Wa.

Alexey Karetnikov, a Russian citizen in his early 20s, worked as a software tester for Microsoft for nine months, Bloomberg News reported.

Ten members of the spy ring have pleaded guilty to conspiring to serve as unregistered foreign agents on June 8 in a U.S. federal court. They planned to infiltrate policy-making circles after building false American identifies.

Karetnikov was deported on charges of violating U.S immigration laws, Bloomberg News said, citing a report in Russian state-run news service Itar-Tass. Karetnikov agreed to deportation to avoid court proceedings.
