Justice, Limited Too recall tainted teen jewelry for cadmium
In all, 19 different types of jewelry are subject to the recall. They include hearts, heart locks, butterflies, cupcakes, peace signs and crowns. Some feature the theme "BFF" -- Best Friends Forever.
About 137,000 pieces of the Chinese-made jewelry pieces are involved, the CPSC said. The tainted jewelry was sold between November 2008 and February 2010 for $7-$16. No injuries or illnesses have been reported connected to the products.
Cadmium, like lead, can be toxic to young children. After a major federal crackdown on lead in children's products some manufacturers began using cadmium, which is unregulated. However, the government has since said it will create cadmium standards and has issued a series of recalls involving the metal.
The CPSC urges consumers to take keep the jewelry away from children and return it to any Justice or Limited Too store for a refund.
