AAA TripTik app doesn't compare to old fashioned paper TripTiks
The free TripTik App works on the iPhone as well as the iPod Touch and the iPad, though the latter two will need to be connected to the Internet for the entire trip to be useful. With the TripTik app you will be able to plan a trip, get directions and find points of interest near your location.
You can choose to display hotels, restaurants, points of interest, gas stations auto shops and campgrounds that are near your current location or along your route. Clicking on one of the locations will provide you with the AAA rating, cost summary and if applicable the AAA Investigator's notes which are all handy when looking for a meal or a place to stay.
The paper TripTik may seem a bit old fashioned to some, but if you take a second look, you'll realize it's more awesome than old fashioned. Even this smart phone addict knows the value of paper when he sees it and the paper TripTik offers much more value than the app when it comes to driving across the country. How you ask? With construction information and potential delay areas stamped, handwritten and highlighted throughout the TripTik.
If you are an AAA member, which is one membership WalletPop says is worth paying for, you should definitely get the paper TripTik from your local office to use in tandem with the TripTik App since the app is faster at looking up hotel information than using the AAA Guidebook.
AAA members should also grab the AAA Discounts app which finds places where you can show your card and save as well as the AAA Roadside app which can request roadside assistance using your current location.
