Los Angeles Rental: 1BR, 1BA Old Hollywood, $1,375
Located on Wilshire Boulevard and bordering Hancock Park and Koreatown, these one-bedroom, one-bath apartments have old-world Hollywood charm (and even had some legendary former residents) in one of Los Angeles' coolest areas. And since there are a few units available, you have the option of units priced from $1,375 to just over $1,700 (utilities included!).
Let's have a stroll around the grounds....
As the website says, "The Gaylord offers exceptional apartment lifestyle in an architectural treasure at reasonable prices." The complex was built in the early 20th century and used as a hotel before being converted to apartments in the 1960's. It's said that Winston Churchill stayed here, that Nixon kept an apartment here before becoming president, and that John Barrymore lived here in the '40s. The Gaylord was next to the famed Brown Derby (now gone), and across from the famed Ambassador Hotel (also gone). You could say this building is what remains of an area where legends of all sorts roamed.
The Gaylord has a number of one-bedrooms available, so you have the opportunity to chose your layout and price, but know that you will be getting a fair-priced apartment. The median price for a one-bedroom in this ZIP code is $1,600, so depending on the unit you choose, you will either be below the median or just slightly above.
Not only are the units charming, but you have a great lobby with a 24-hour desk attendant, and a lovely pool (see picture) to enjoy. The neighborhood has a plethora of restaurants, including the Mermaid Cafe and the H.M.S. Bounty next door, so you can just walk out your door to enjoy some of what the neighborhood has to offer
Aside from the included utilities, and the pool, the Gaylord has 24-hour laundry facilities on site and a gym (also available 24 hours).
