Target opening first Manhattan location this month

Target says it will open its first Manhattan store on July 25. The new East Harlem location will have more space available for fresh food and everyday living essentials, specifically for apartment living than more generic Target stores.

Also to get in sync with Manhattan's melting pot of consumers, Target will sell English and Spanish books, movies and greeting cards. The store will even host a large collection of ethnic dolls, religious candles, international music options and even a Harlem Designer collection for urban apparel and bold home accessories. Target will donate 5% of the profits from each item sold from the Harlem Designer collection to a local non-profit of the designer's choice. To cater the apartment goers of Manhattan, the East Harlem Target will also sell storage solutions, smaller items and portable beds. Area residents will receive direct advertising alerting them of specials and new items for sale.

The new store will be linked to nearby transit by a pedestrian bridge. Shoppers will then be able to exit the train and walk across to Target located on the second floor of East River Plaza. Customers who are driving to the new Target location can use the Plaza's parking deck.

Target will hire about 400 team members to operate the East Harlem store. Interested applicants can apply here.
