Judge Grants Class Action Status to Domino's Pizza Drivers

A federal judge gave class-action status to Domino's Pizza Inc (DPZ) delivery drivers who sued the chain for failing to provide sufficient reimbursement for delivery costs. The drivers say this meant they were being paid less than the minimum wage.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Donovan Frank covers thousands of drivers in states other than California and New York, Reuters reported. The case was first brought by two Domino's delivery workers in Minnesota.

In court papers, Domino's said there was too much variation in terms of routes, mileage, vehicles and region to group the drivers together as a class.

The Minnesota lawsuit was filed against Domino's Pizza LLC, an operating unit of Domino's Pizza Inc. The Michigan-based parent company is not a defendant.
