VapoSpray nasal decongestant recalled over faulty expiration date

Procter & Gamble Co. is recalling an unspecified quantity of its nasal decongestant VapoSpray over concerns the expiration date marked on the package may be overstating the safety and effectiveness of the product's formulation.

The company is removing the drug from store shelves, claiming the recall is not a result of consumer complaints, but rather a voluntary precautionary step. It is asking consumers who bought VapoSpray 4-Hour Nasal Spray by Sinex with an expiration date before June 2013 to throw it out.

"P&G is taking this action out of an abundance of caution," said spokeswoman Crystal Harrell.

Before June 2009, VapoSpray was also sold under the names Sinex Nasal Spray and Ultra Fine Mist.

Consumers can request a replacement coupon or refund by calling P&G's toll-free line at 877-340-8853.

The recall comes on the heels of P & G's publicity battle over Pampers Dry Max, which was sparked by a maelstrom of complaints by parents angered that the new line of diapers was causing severe rashes and burns on their children.
