Top 10 last-minute hotel deals for Fourth of July

If you've just decided that you're ready to declare your independence from never-ending to-do lists, buzzing cell phones and unruly piles of paper, there are still steals to be had on hotel rooms from San Diego to Washington D.C. and almost everywhere in-between.

Several travel websites conducted surveys this week of available properties for the fast-approaching July 4 weekend and found everything from $100 rooms in five-star hotels in Las Vegas to $90 pads in Los Angeles and $62 overnight rates in Orlando.

"We're seeing great deals in Vegas, where prices are flat versus 2009, and 2009 was an astronomically low year," said Fulvia Montresor, senior director of merchandising at Hotwire.com. "If you want a luxury steal, Vegas is the place to go."

Rates on luxury hotel rooms in Sin City -- where 5,000 rooms have come online in the last few years alone and convention business is dragging -- dropped 11% for this July 4 weekend when compared with a similar period last year, she said. Hotwire.com offers travelers deep discounts on hotel rooms, but doesn't reveal the name of the property until after they book their trip.
