Playdom acquires social gaming startup Hive7

Playdom is on a roll with partnerships and acquisitions lately,and tonight a press release has revealed that they have acquired another social gaming startup. Hive7 is a San Francisco-based, True Ventures funded startup that has had small success on Facebook with applications such as Knighthood and Chivalry. This is the fifth acquisition this year for Playdom, following Three Melons (who developed Bola), Acclaim Games, Offbeat Creations, and Merscom.

According to Hive7's website, they have an upcoming game titled Zombie Chomp. They also claim to create social MMO experiences. Thus far, Playdom's games have not been grand in multiplayer scale, so it is possible that Hive7 will allow Playdom to venture into the synchronous virtual world arena.

It will be interesting to see how Hive7 help contribute to Playdom's battle against Zynga.
