Message In A Bottle Makes Way Through BP Oil Slick
According to Northwest Florida's Daily News, the bottle had been sent from a cruise ship and washed up on Seagrove Beach. It was discovered by a vacationing Houston man, Richard Lewis, who at first thought it was debris from the BP disaster. But then he noticed a message inside.
The note was written on prescription paper by a German doctor who apparently sent it from the German cruise ship Mein Schiff, operated by Royal Caribbean's TUI Cruises, while cruising off the coast of Barbados last year.
The message? "Dear finder, please write to Germany, best regards, Hanns S."
Lewis and his son spotted the bottle as what the newspaper calls "heavy amounts of tar balls" hit beaches in Walton County. He said his family had been vacationing in the area for 25 years, and he wasn't going to let goo from the BP crisis ruin his vacation plans.
Still, he said the bottle find was interesting.
"Kind of a long way of connecting with another part of the world via a catastrophe," Lewis told the newspaper. He added he does plan on contacting the bottle's sender.
