Norwegian Cruise Line's brand new and much-hyped 4,100-passenger Norwegian Epic has hit a small technical snag.

The $1.1 billion, French-built ship debuted over the weekend, cruising from Rotterdam, Holland, into the English Channel, with invited guests checking out such exciting ship features as 20 restaurants, an Ice Bar and the debut of Blue Man Group at sea.

But a subsequent departure to Southampton, England, was delayed as a technical issue was discovered.

Norwegian said the issue "no way affects the safe operation of the vessel," and that the ship would catch up on its schedule, which includes a third inaugural cruise from Southampton.

'We have had a shaft bearing problem and we are flying the spares to Southampton. No propeller repairs are needed,' Norwegian Cruise Line president Roberto Martinoli told the newsletter.

Norwegian offered guests booked on the delayed Rotterdam to Southampton sailing the option of a refund, but said the ship's transatlantic voyage embarking Thursday would not be impacted. The ship officially debuts in New York, on July 2. Country legend Reba McEntire will smash the champagne bottle as the Epic's Godmother.
