HGTV's David Bromstad: Making a 'Color Splash' by Breaking Some Rules, Keeping It Simple

Updated

He skyrocketed to fame on HGTV, thanks to his win on the first season of the network's "Design Star" series. Since then David Bromstad has become a household name thanks to his work on HGTV's "Color Splash" and national appearances on morning shows.

Bromstad encourages everyone to paint, regardless of the rules. For instance, he explains that what landlords really want are white walls at the time a tenant moves out. "I rented for most of my life and I always painted," he says, "and a majority of the times I was not asked to change the color."

For those not brave enough to take this step, color can be brought in through artwork, glass, pillows and rugs. Pillows, especially, are great because they can be swapped out by season.
