Street Wire: Stocks Fall at Open on Weak Housing Data

Updated

Stocks opened broadly lower Wednesday, hurt by a weak reading on May housing construction and a tepid forecast from economic bellwether FedEx (FDX). The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average ($INDU) gapped down 39 points to 10,355, while the broader S&P 500 ($INX) fell 5 to 1,110. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite ($COMPX) lost 10 points to 2,296 soon after the opening bell.
