"Shawshank Redemption" Prison Now Hosts Weddings

The concept of destination wedding is taking on a whole new dimension in Ohio, where couples can now get married in the spooky historic prison featured in The Shawshank Redemption.

The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, doubled as a fictional Maine penitentiary in the Academy Award-winning 1994 movie, featuring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, and based on a Stephen King novella..

Closed to prisoners for years, the prison serves up popular ghost tours and is now promoting its recently renovated Central Guard Room for couples looking to tie the knot.

Receptions for up to 225 can be hosted in the space, which even has a dance floor. The cost for renting the room is about $700 for eight hours, according to USA Today.

Planning a more intimate gathering? You can also rent the former Warden's Dining room, which seats 20 to 40 people.

To get the attention of brides-to-be, the prison is also hosting bridal shows called "Glamour in the Slammer."
