Kansas doctor linked to 68 deaths

A Kansas jury is deliberating today over the fate of a doctor and his wife whose clinic has been linked to 68 overdose deaths.

Dr. Stephen Schneider and his wife, Linda, of Haysville, Kan., are charged unlawfully prescribing drugs, health care fraud and money laundering in the federal case.

The Associated Press reports that Assistant U.S. Attorney Tanya Treadway in closing arguments Tuesday pointed to patient patient testimony that called the Schneider Medical Clinic "the Burger King for pain pill addicts."

Schneider says he was tricked by patients who faked their pain and the defense has challenged autopsy findings that the deaths were causes by overdoses.
