I Interviewed at Walmart

walmart job interviewAfter a career in professional sales, I found myself, as many others have recently, looking for work in almost any field just to survive the storm of unemployment. I eventually interviewed and was hired by Walmart. The interview process today consists of sitting at a kiosk located within any Walmart or Sam's Club store, spending about an hour completing an online application. You can also do it online: www.walmartstores.com/Careers

It is very important to take your "employment timeline" (typically a résumé with exact dates and details) with you, so that you can easily and accurately complete the process. As you can probably imagine, it isn't difficult to obtain an interview with Walmart, but I would encourage you to stay on top of the process by contacting the store of your choice AT LEAST weekly!

Once in the interview process, you will typically be interviewed by three or more associates.

Step 1: Usually your interview will start with the HR person (who exists at each store location), who verifies the information you've typed into the kiosk.

Step 2: There is typically an interview (during the same session), with either an assistant manager or zone supervisor within the department you've chosen as your primary interest. The second portion of your interview is pretty straightforward. What they're looking for is a showing of your interest to "commit to working your schedule," the non-verbalized signs of your ability to communicate (with both them and other associates with which you'll work) and your ability to work a flexible schedule. Do not expect to work Monday to Friday from 8AM to 5PM -- Walmart hours don't work that way!

If you cover all of the bases outlined here, you can be virtually assured of being hired by Walmart. You can, indeed get that better pay scale, hours and other things you want to do with sincere, timely and honest effort. My efforts paid off and I became an assistant manager in little more than a year after becoming an hourly associate!
