Tech Take: AT&T Points to Hackers in iPad Security Breach

AT&T (T) attempted to reassure iPad users Sunday that it patched a security breach, after thousands of emails were exposed by a security group called Goatse Security, according to a Reuters report. In a letter sent to customers, the telecom giant said only customers' email addresses were exposed and that personal information such as passwords, account information or other personal information were not, the report noted.

Last week, the FBI launched an investigation into the email breach, which affected 114,000 of Apple's (AAPL) iPad users, including a number of high-profile folks such as White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. AT&T's letter said the company is cooperating with investigators and will "prosecute violators to the fullest extent of the law," the report said. Goatse reportedly hacked into the AT&T iPad subscriber database to demonstrate its vulnerabilities and then shared the information with media site Gawker.
