World of Warcraft Servers Go Down For 24 Hours

Updated

World of Warcraft will reportedly be down for 24 hours as its servers undergo maintenance for an upgrade, sending its players to the forum board en masse, according to postings on Activision Blizzard's (ATVI) World of Warcraft community forum.

The World of Warcraft (WoW) is Blizzard's hugely successful subscription-based, multi-player online game, which apparently took down a number of its realms Tuesday. These realms, or computer servers, house copies of the game, with each realm dedicated to a particular WoW group.

A WoW server alert that went out at 2:55 a.m. (Pacific) Wednesday and was posted by a WoW member provided this update from Blizzard's support team:

Maintenance has concluded for the majority of the realms that were taken down for their 24-hour upgrade. Work commences on the realms listed below and we anticipate they'll be available by approximately 4:00 AM PDT
[Wednesday].

For Activision Blizzard, the faster it gets its subscribers back up the better. As they say, time is money.
