Airline to offer iPad Entertainment

Australian low-cost airline Jetstar, a subsidiary of Qantas, says it plans to test launch Apple iPads as in-flight entertainment for passengers.

The Sydney Morning Herald says the airline will test iPad rentals for A$10 ($8.40) on select flights within Australia, beginning later this month.

The gadget, the paper says, will be loaded with movies, TV programs, games, e-books and music. Internet browsing will reportedly be disabled, however, in keeping with the airline's policy.

The iPad just went on sale in Australia last week, and airline officials said they expect them to be a popular offering in-flight.

"Given the demand for the iPad so far, I anticipate it will have strong appeal amongst our passengers," said Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan.

If the test proves successful, the service could roll out across the carrier's entire domestic and international fleet.
