Top Five Hotel Deal Cities for Summer
According to Hotwire.com president Clem Bason, Las Vegas tops the list for the best hotel deals this summer.
"Prices are awesome, but the big breakthrough is that we have 5-star hotels for under $100 regularly," said Bason to USA Today.
A surge of new hotels in San Diego, especially near the convention center, means a surplus of cheap rooms are available to travelers.
"You have to try hard in San Diego to either not be in a new hotel room or in a room that's newly remodeled," Bason told USA Today. "We have four-star hotels either right on the bay if you like to overlook the water or in the Gaslamp Quarter if you're single and want to have fun for around $90 regularly."
Miami is "another place that built up so much that you can stay in wonderful hotels on the beach," said Bason. If you can stand the heat, Bason said a room at a luxury beachside hotel can be found for only $150 a night.
In Orlando, Bason projected 4-star hotels around Disney will probably be available for around $75 a night this summer. "It's still a steal and it's going to remain a steal. Airline capacity was cut so much that until some of it comes back, I don't see hotels rebounding significantly."
Niagara Falls rounds out the list for summer hotel deals. Bason pointed out the area is in desperate need of business, saying the area is "one of the places where we're still seeing year-over-year declines on Hotwire right now."
As the hotel market catches up, deals will eventually dry up. However, Bason said recovery still means business for Hotwire.
"In its best year, occupancy in the hotel industry was 67%, so there will always be empty rooms for us to sell," he said. "One of our peak years was 2007 so I anticipate as (the hotel industry) recovers, we'll be able to ride the waves with our partners."
