Parents with babies sleeping in a drop-sided crib with the brands C&T International, Sorelle or Golden Baby should check to see if their crib is included in a recall of 170,000 cribs sold between January 2000 and March 2010.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging people to stop using the affected cribs immediately.

The CPSC announced the recall after reports of 104 incidents of the drop side detaching from the crib, creating an entrapment hazard that can strangle or suffocate infants and toddlers.

The problem occurs when the drop-side hardware disengages from its tracks. The drop side then detaches to create a space between the drop side and the crib mattress. Children may slip into the space and become trapped. If the drop side completely detaches, the child may fall from the crib. Slats can also become detached, with the potential for a child to suffocate, strangle or fall.
