Chicago Rental: University Village Penthouse for $2,595
Over the past decade, new residential buildings and retail shops have gone up in University Village, a redeveloped mixed-income West Side area. Location-wise the neighborhood's draw is its proximity to the University of Illinois at Chicago and to historic Little Italy.
But in a part of town that revolves around a university, rarely do you find a place that's been finished so nicely.
On the inside of the 1,700-square-foot apartment, the floors are wall-to-wall cherry-stained hardwood. In the living room, there's a decorative fireplace, high ceilings, and floor-length windows opening up to a 52-by-10 foot balcony. The master bathroom continues the laundry-list of luxuries with a marble jacuzzi, double vanity, separate shower and walk-in closet.
Other amenities worth mentioning are a building doorman, in-unit washer and dryer, stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops, and a inside, heated parking spot.
For apartment shoppers, who are looking to share this place with roommates (especially ones they haven't met before) or for a family, the bathroom situation might be a little thorny. There is only one for the three-bedroom or two-bedroom-plus-den space. And the other sticking point is the bedrooms don't have attached doors, but thankfully, there's a remedy. If requested, they can be re-attached.
The leasing agent says the walls are currently being repainted to a neutral color scheme, so the apartment will be in tip-top shape come move-in day. And with warmer, spring days ahead, that spacious balcony is just screaming for a grill, a couple of lawn chairs, or a umbrella table, where you can eat dinner, study or just enjoy the view.
