Armani Hotel Dubai Opens Its Doors in Burj Khalifa

April 22, 2010 marked the grand opening of fashion designer Giorgio Armani's first luxury hotel in Dubai, just in time to help give a boost to the Gulf Arab emirate's plight to recover from its debt dilemma.

Located on six floors of the Burj Khalifa tower, the world's tallest building, the 160-rooms were designed by Giorgio Armani himself. An additional eight floors have been dedicated to Armani's 144 luxurious residences. According to Breaking Travel News, the hotel is the first in a line of planned properties being built in collaboration with Dubai's Emaar Properties.

Armani brings his trademark minimalist style to an area famous for excess. Expect Armani to showcase a muted color palette, minimal furnishings and lots of touches from the Armani Casa collection. One thing you will not find is a single picture on it's walls.

According to Reuters, standard rooms in the hotel will cost 4,000 dirhams (approx. $1,089) a night, while the most luxurious suite has a price tag of 40,000 dirhams (approx. $10,890).

The hotel is also home to eight very unique restaurants, the Privé nightclub which lays claim to the world's largest LCD screen, and the world's first in-hotel Armani Spa. The spa offers 12,000 square feet of wellness, where guests can enjoy thermal suites, a high-tech fitness centre, treatment rooms, and an outdoor swimming pool.

Shopping is a big part of the Armani experience, of course, and you can pick up gourmet chocolates from the Dolci sweet shop or buds at the Fiori floral shop, as well as some of Giorgio's latest fashions.

Soon after the opening of the hotel, Mr. Armani said: "My ambition for Armani Hotel Dubai – the first of a collection of Armani hotels, resorts and residences that will soon circle the world – is to celebrate comfort and style by providing the highest standards of design, hospitality and service."

The hotel is said to set a new benchmark in luxury hospitality, not only in Dubai but globally. Emaar Chairman Mohamed Alabbar stated that "Armani Hotel Dubai will further also establish Burj Khalifa as one of the world's unmatched luxury destinations".

Armani has quite a few projects planned for the future which include Armani's first resort, to be located in Marrakech, and Armani residences villas in Marassi, Egypt. The next Armani hotel, Armani Hotel Milano, is scheduled to open in 2011 in the Italian city of Milan.
