Ace of Space: Kitty in the City
You don't have to buy a big, bulky or expensive climber for your kitty. There are a number of space-saving alternatives.
Here are a few options:
1. City Kitty Climber™
I decided to purchase The City Kitty Climber™ for my cats. This cat climber (pictured, left) is a perfect space-saving solution for a small studio. The climber easily mounts and dismounts to a door. Plus the vertical design is attractive and sleek.
KatWalks are cool vertical structures composed of isolated perches. The walks can be easily mounted to any wall. In our last apartment, I installed a number of KatWallks and the cats were able to jump up to the perches from our couch and then hop from one perch to another throughout the living room. Looks pretty comfy, right?
3. DIY Cat Playground
Bill and Maria created an amazing cat playground in their small Brooklyn apartment. The cat-friendly playground runs through the living room and around the kitchen. It resembles a small obstacle course. They "designed the stairs to be narrow so as to not intrude into the room too much; padded them with non-skid carpeting; and painted them yellow to incorporate the piece as a design element."
At the end of the track the cats have pillows and other toys to play with. This is my favorite space-saving solution. The design is beautiful and a perfect way to entertain both your cats and guests.
4. Recycled Cardboard Kitty Pad
If you're not thrilled about cats climbing the walls, try to integrate lightweight, movable cat furniture into your home. For instance, Design Sponge featured an excellent do-it-yourself article on creating a recycled cardboard kitty pad. This solution offers many benefits, including a lightweight, low-profile toy that can be easily moved for cleaning or put away when guests come over.
