Chicago Rental: Roscoe Village 1BR for $1,400
Today many Chicagoans are drawn to Roscoe Village's strong sense of community (check out the garage sales, pub crawls and brunch gatherings listed on their local website) and to living in a place that's in Chicago proper, but feels like a small town. Nestled in a cute, Victorian-style home, this one-bedroom, two-bathroom Roscoe Village apartment evokes that neighborhoody feeling -- just wait until you step inside.
Even though it's a 1,200-square-foot place, its layout is more cozy than spacious. Bay windows, hardwood floors and natural light add to the rental's charm while upscale touches, such as granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a marble bathroom, improve its livability. Other conveniences include a washer and dryer in-unit, a parking space, and trash pickup. (Your water bill is included, too, but not the other utilities).
Roscoe Village is on the North Side, located about as far north from the city as Lakeview, but farther West and inland from Lake Michigan. You also have your pick of lively next-door neighborhoods to visit, with Lakeview and Lincoln Park to the East and Bucktown to the South.
A couple of things to keep in mind: The no-pet policy (which is a shame since this neighborhood is a dog lover's paradise) and the earliest move-in date is the first of June. Other than that, for a small-town kind of person or someone seeking refuge from the city, Roscoe Village may be your perfect match.
