San Francisco Homes for Sale: Under $3M in Haight-Ashbury

You've got to love San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. This is where it all happened, man, during the Summer of Love. You can take a walking tour of The Haight, as it's called, and come across houses where the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix lived. Located near the Panhandle and Golden Gate Park, the Haight is one of the quintessential San Francisco neighborhoods. The classic Victorian and Edwardian homes in this neighborhood can range from $300K for a onr-bedroom condo all the way up to $5M for a five-bedroom mansion.

We compared three great single-family homes in and around Haight-Ashbury, all priced under $3 million:

House no. 1: Great Location 5BR for $2.95M (above)

This cozy 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom single family house runs $2,950,000 and is located right at 1660 Shrader St. The location is great; it's up the hill from Haight Street on your way to Twin Peaks. So there's a great view of the city as seen through the home's large picture windows. There are hardwood floors throughout and the home comes with a two-car garage. Both the living and dining areas have spectacular views, which makes for great entertaining.

House No. 2: Designer-Renovated 5BR for $2.6M

For a bit less you can grab this 5-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, single family house with 3,675 square feet to call your own. Located at 119 Frederick St., this Edwardian home was renovated by interior designer Audrey Brandt in 2004. The house boasts 11 gorgeous rooms on three levels with a spacious master suite. The formal dining room has a decorative fireplace and opens to a living room that has a wood-burning fireplace. Top that off with a Tuscan-style gourmet kitchen with a work island, granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances. The kitchen/breakfast area has a walkout garden. Add in the two-car garage and call it home.

House No. 3: Edwardian 4BR for $2.239M

For even less than the previous two, $2,239,000 will buy the 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom house on 900 Clayton St. This beauty is an exquisitely renovated Edwardian home with three levels. It's ideal for entertaining: featuring a grand foyer, formal living and dining rooms, and a gourmet kitchen/family room that opens to a lovely walkout garden. Period details include hardwood floors, wainscotting, moldings and two fireplaces. Besides that, expect a large attic, wine cellar and two-car garage.

Conclusion: For the money, we'd go with the designer renovated 5-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home. You get slightly less in the way of bathrooms but more bedrooms, along with classic charm and space.
