Free Sears gift card giveaway in NYC

If you are in New York City today, March 31, look for Sears representatives on Military Island in Times Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will be giving away 1,400 gift cards worth $5 to $10. One gift card will have $1,000 on it! I would get there early because all the cards may be gone well before 3 p.m.

The stunt is to bring attention to Sears' new online store called Marketplace, which is a cross between Amazon and eBay. You can sell your own stuff on Sears.com's Marketplace, advertise on the site, or browse millions of products for sale. Lookout for big red sale tags promoting the Marketplace strewn around New York City.

Find out how much is on your card by checking the balance at Sears.com. You can't use the free gift cards in stores, but you can use them at Sears.com or Sears' Marketplace.
