Stocks in the News: Palm, Somaxon, Boeing

The following is a round-up of the most active gainers and losers from Thursday's trading session:



Somaxon Pharmaceuticals (SOMX) was the biggest gainer among U.S. stocks, finishing up a whopping 137%, or $5.32 per share, on news that it received FDA approval for an insomnia drug.

Delta Petroleum (DPTR) surged 30%, or 41 cents per share, after its planned sale of a stake in a large natural gas field in Colorado.

Nike (NKE) rose 5.4%, or $3.81 per share, after a positive earnings report late Wednesday.

Google (GOOG) grew slightly, ending the day up 84 cents per share; Intel (INTC) fell slightly, or 4 cents per share; and Sony (SNE) rose 1.5%, or 56 cents per share. Several reports said the trio will work together to create Internet-enabled televisions and set top boxes.

Viacom (VIA) rose a half percent, or 19 cents per share, after unsealed documents offered details of a fight between the company and Google's YouTube.

Barnes and Noble (BKS) increased 2.5%, or 57 cents per share, after a chief executive shake up.

FedEx (FDX) shares set a 52-week high at $92.67 per share, growing 3%, or $2.87 per share, on better-than-expected earnings.

Palm (PALM), which ended the day up 5% , or 28 cents per share, got an unexpected boost in anticipation of a third-quarter earnings announcement late Thursday.

Boeing (BA) hit a 52-week high, increasing 2.2 %, or $1.49 per share, and leading advancers on the Dow.
