Apple iPad launches April 3, Pre-order March 12

ipad launches april 3The Apple iPad, a tablet device from Apple that CEO Steve Jobs calls, "magical and revolutionary," will finally reach consumer hands and slide into really large pockets on Saturday, April 3. Starting Friday, March 12, consumers can place a pre-order online or visit their local Apple Store to reserve one for pickup in April.

The Apple iPad was supposed to launch in late March but it is possible that the short delay is due to production issues which are rumored to be limiting supplies of the hyped and anticipated device.

While consumers will be able to pre-order both the Wifi-only and the Wifi + 3G model on March 12, consumers who want on-the-go 3G connectivity will need to wait a little bit longer while the 3G iPad passes through the FCC review.

When the iPad Wifi + 3G is released consumers will be able to use the data on a month-to-month basis without any long term contracts. Users can purchase 250MB of data use for $14.99 a month or unlimited for $29.99 a month through AT&T.

The price of the iPad models are as follows, and if you were smart enough to start saving $8 a day when they were announced you should be ready to pay cash.
  • 16GB WiFi only -- $499
  • 32GB WiFi only -- $599
  • 64GB WiFi only -- $699
  • 16GB WiFi + 3G -- $629
  • 32GB WiFi + 3G -- $729
  • 64GB WiFi + 3G -- $829
The Apple iPad is expected to bring a collection of new digital content to readers and entertainment junkies as magazines and newspapers begin developing digital versions of their content for the device. Textbook publishers are also working on delivering new educational material on the slim tablet at prices lower than traditional textbooks.

There's also talk of a paid Hulu App to allow on-the-go viewing of your favorite shows (except The Daily Show) as well as lower prices for TV shows. And, there's always the possibility of a Netflix app for watching movies on your iPad, which was hinted at in a recent survey. Before the Wii and the Playstation 3 gained Netflix streaming they appeared in a similar survey of the company's users, so this is a real possibility.
