Burger King's new broilers allow it to sell premium burgers
The fast food chain announced the national roll out of its premium Steakhouse XT burger -- with 7 ounces of beef -- that it can now add to the menu because of the state-of-the-art broilers the company installed in most of its U.S. and Canada eateries. The extra-thick steakhouse patty debuts this month.
In the future, watch out for other products such as flame-grilled desserts and fire-grilled ribs.
"This new broiler is a game-changing piece of equipment and a significant point of differentiation for us," said John Schaufelberger, senior vice president, global product marketing and innovation, in a press release. " It allows us to up the ante in our product development across the board -- from superior quality food and unconventional menu innovations to even more competitive value offerings."
For wallet watchers, this isn't happy news. The company recently announced that it's increasing the prices of its $1 cheeseburgers. All indications are the premium burgers will come for a premium price. The promotional price for the Steakhouse XT is $3.99, while an A1 Steakhouse XT and a Smoky Cheddar Steakhouse XT are tagged at $4.49 each. That's almost $1.30 more than the price of a basic Whopper.
But if you are looking for more meat for your money opt for the Steakhouse XT, which, according to Burger King, is about 30% larger than competitor McDonald's Angus Third Pounders.
