Fashion Week rumor mill: Madonna for Macy's

Even high-fashion gossip hounds are buzzing over this piece of gossip: according to New York Magazine, Madonna and Macy's are on the verge of announcing a collaboration.

While such a collection wouldn't be grounded in pure fashion talent -- like the RACHEL Rachel Roy exclusive Macy's line -- it would still be a retail coup. In the way overplayed arena of celebrity-designed lines, Madonna is one of the few people left with enough star power to attract customer interest.

We'll have to wait and see whether Madonna can do for the age-old department store what she did for H&M. Back in 2007, her collection there helped drive the chain to a 29% surge in monthly sales.
