PetVille weekly challenges: Will they inspire you to play more?

PetVille, the pet simulation game from Zynga, released a new feature today -- Challenges. Every week, the game will present players with several challenges, i.e dance with 10 neighbors, pick up 10 cups of spilled coffee. Those who complete the challenges will earn exclusive badges, coins and Love Points.

Recently, social simulation-style games seemed to be running out of tricks to keep players interested, but adding regular challenges with unique rewards is a refreshing way to inspire player loyalty. We've seen this work well in other types of social games, such as PopCap's Bejeweled Blitz, and we expect the same for PetVille.
