No room for Mary and Joseph in Trenton? Try Bethlehem.

Updated

Mary and Joseph came to Trenton, but there was no room at the Statehouse.

Two affordable housing advocates dressed as the biblical figures of Mary and Joseph paid a visit last week to the New Jersey Governor's office. But the advocates were rebuffed by the transition office of Gov.-elect Chris Christie, just as the real Mary and Joseph were turned away more than 2,000 years ago, reported NJ.com.

The advocates, along with a group of protesters and Clergy, were calling attention the the plight of many poor and homeless N.J. families who would be affected by Christie's vows to "gut" the state's affordable housing requirements. "They're looking for a place to live, they're looking for a room at the inn and they're being turned away," Adam Gordon, a staff attorney from the Fair Share Housing Center, told NJ.com.

So much for Love Thy Neighbor. But then, here's a word of advice: never go to state capitols in search of wise men.
