Growing in Mafia Wars is one part luck, one part having a job that allows you to access Facebook (me) and selling yourself out to anyone will listen in the hopes that everyone you've ever met will join your mafia. Thankfully, with a limit of 501 members per mafia, it won't take years to reach a godfather-like stature. But that's not to say that some Mafia Wars players don't turn their desire into desperation with weak, pleading and pathetic attempts to tempt you into their mob (and in some cases, sounding like recycled personals ads).

During our sweep of the latest Mafia Wars updates on Facebook, we found several standouts (names have been removed to protect the innocent):
