Stocks set to open lower as investors digest more earnings

U.S. stocks are pointing to a lower open Wednesday, a day after the government reported the nation's housing market appears to be struggling amid the economic recovery. Futures point to lower openings for all three major U.S. stock indexes, with the benchmark Dow Jones industrial average trading below the 10,000 level. Shares of Internet search engine Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) soared in after-hours trading, after the company reported better-than-expected earnings of $186.1 million, or 13 cents a share. A bevy of companies are due to report earnings today, including: American Airlines parent AMR Corp. (AMR); eBay Inc. (EBAY); Eli Lilly (LLY); Boeing Co. (BA); and banking stocks Morgan Stanley (MS), KeyCorp (KEY), Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) and U.S. Bancorp (USB).
