Find auctions and book sales in your area

Updated

With yard-sale season coming to an end in many parts of the country, thousands of bargain hunters will be experiencing symptoms of withdrawal.

Luckily, there is help. While yard sales still present the best opportunity for bargains on household items and valuable collectibles that can be resold on sites like eBay, the winter offers up a large number of book sales and auctions that can help make the wait for the spring a bit more manageable. Here are two sites that help you find events in your area:

  • AuctionZip.com is a site I just stumbled on the other day and let me tell you: It's pretty freakin' cool. All you have to do is type in your zip code and how many miles you're willing to travel and it spits out a daily calendar with all the auctions in your area -- with links to the websites and detailed listing/photographs when available. The downside? Set the radius wide enough and you could very easily end up with no life outside of auction-going.

  • BookSaleFinder.com is similar to AuctionZip -- but it covers used book sales. Just click on your state and you'll be directed to a calendar with sales and links to directions and more information.

You can also check your local CraigsList site for rummage sales and church fairs.
