Party at My Cubicle Tonight

Or should we throw it in the executive dining room?

That's what you might be saying if a recent New York magazine article is on target. Manhattan has a glut of empty office buildings so why not turn some into cheap housing? That's essentially what happened in SoHo back in the day: Artists moved into empty factories and the loft was born. What's now a status symbol was once a big, cold room only starving creatives would take. So it stands to reason that some of the empty office buildings could be next. How ironic if soon the creative class is sittin' pretty in the old Lehman Bros. or the Empire State Building. The theory makes sense but it's all in the execution. The magazine asked several designers how they'd do it. See what they came up with here.
